Tomorrow, 29th Sept 2012, is the proposed date for the annual Liffey Descent – a canoe marathon that runs a course from the K Club in Straffan, Co. Kildare, to the Trinity Rowing Club in Dublin. The race takes a thrilling ride, for the partipants and those on the banks watching, through 9 weirs and 1 portage. The thrills are enhanced by the fact that Electric Irleland (formerly the Electricity Supply Board) release thirty million tons of water into the river, turning modest rapids into whiteknuckle torrents! The adrenalin-fueled race brings many canoe enthusiasts from the world over come to take part in this event.
For those of you who’d like to go out and watch this internationally renowned event, here is the race route.
